Early Detection of Autoimmune Type 1 Diabetes (T1D): A Framework for HCP–Patient Screening Conversations

  • Screening
  • Early Detection
  • T1D

A question-and-answer framework organized around six clinical discussion points to support HCPs in conducting informed conversations with individuals and families about autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) screening. Discussion points cover the benefits of early detection, who should be screened per ADA guidelines, how screening is performed, which autoantibodies are assessed (insulin, GAD, IA-2, ZnT8), how to interpret positive results, and recommended next steps following a positive screen. Intended to assist HCPs in delivering consistent, evidence-based education at the point of care, with reference to ADA Standards of Care, the ADA Consensus Guidance (Phillip M et al., Diabetes Care, 2024), and psychosocial considerations associated with a positive autoantibody result.
